As the newly appointed Ambassador, I am committed to developing economic stability in the Central African Republic by providing the necessary essentials to its citizens. In December 2013, Bangui, the capital of Central African Republic, descended into a brutal bloodbath as the already fragile state was further weakened. Early signs of recovery and rebuilding soon gave way to a dramatic resurgence in fighting, with armed groups frequently targeting civilians rather than each other. Despite the February 2019 Peace Agreement signed between the government and fourteen armed groups, the security situation in the country remains precarious. During the armed conflict, numerous towns were impacted, forcing an estimated 168,000 children and their families to flee their homes. By August 2022, around 650,000 people were internally displaced.

The combined effects of violence, fragility following long-standing socio-political, structural, and governance deficiencies, as well as deep-seated feelings of marginalization between communities, have left an estimated 3.1 million people in need of assistance. Despite the urgent needs of families, international attention has been scant and the humanitarian response chronically underfunded. Urgent assistance is more important than ever: without it, an entire generation is at risk.

The Central African Republic is one of the most challenging places in the world to be a child. Economic downturns and rising food prices have had a dramatic effect on family well-being. Humanitarian workers are facing major obstacles in providing assistance to the 3.1 million people who need it. Meanwhile, two-thirds of the country's children didn't attend school regularly in 2021, and 1.41 million will need help to do so in 2022.

Above all, children in the Central African Republic need security. Schools, hospitals, and places of worship, which are essential for protection and support, have become targets of armed groups. As a result, half of the country's children are out of school and even more vulnerable to exploitation and violence.
